PANSALT® is a
quality innovation in health foods spearheaded by Heikki Karppanen, M.D.,
a Professor at the University of Helsinki, Department of Pharmacology and
Toxicology in Finland.
Dr. Karppanen became involved in the study of salt and its harmful
effects after he learned about the high incidence of heart attacks leading to
deaths among families in North Karelia, Finland where they lived. He later
discovered that it was the high Sodium and low mineral content in the soil in
their area affecting their food chain that brought about these heart problems
and deaths.
This inspired Dr. Karppanen towards the invention of PANSALT®.
Together with Dr. Mildred Seelig, a Magnesium expert from the American College
of Nutrition, studies towards the development of PANSALT® were
completed. The collaboration of the two experts may be found in the Journal of
the College.
