PANSALT® FAQ Series: What are the advantages of using PANSALT®?

The advantages of using PANSALT® are many. Its primary benefit is the reduction of Sodium, which also means a reduction in the risk of acquiring hypertension and its serious complications including strokes, heart attacks and kidney problems.

A good dose of Magnesium found in PANSALT® may be beneficial both in the excretion of excess or harmful Sodium as well as in the secretion and function of Insulin in the body. Magnesium is also found in green veggies, bran cereals and nuts and seeds. The lack of this essential mineral is strongly related to high blood pressure and diabetes. A good source of information on further benefits of adequate Magnesium intake is The Magnesium Factor by Dr. Mildred Seelig.

Potassium, is another mineral component of PANSALT® which is helpful in getting rid of harmful Sodium in the body, thus contributing to lowered blood pressure. A good reference is The Magnesium Solution for High Blood Pressure by Dr. Jay S Cohen.

Other than Magnesium and Potassium, PANSALT® also contains Lysine, an essential limiting amino acid required for making proteins in the body. Lysine does not naturally occur in the human body and is consumed from daily foods like those containing PANSALT®.

Lastly, PANSALT® offers Iodine which is key to the proper brain cell development of children as well as to their cognitive development. The deficiency of Iodine may lead to goiter problems.

PANSALT® FAQ Series: Why is common salt harmful to me?

Common salt is 98-100% Sodium Chloride. Our body needs only small amounts of Sodium to function properly. The WHO (World Health Organization) recommends a dietary salt intake of less than 5g per day due to its high Sodium content.

In the average Filipino diet, our salt intake goes up to as much as 10-15g per day. Our use of condiments like toyo, patis and bagoong adds even more to our Sodium intake. This leads to higher risks of developing high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, stomach cancer, osteoporosis and kidney disease, among others.

You may wish to refer to The Salt Solution, Salt, Diet & Health, Salt Matters –consumer guides for further information on the harms of common salt.

PANSALT® FAQ Series: Why is PANSALT® different from common salt?

PANSALT® was invented as a healthier alternative to common salt. Sodium Chloride, which is the primary component of common salt is harmful to the body when consumed in excess of the recommended dietary intake (less than 5g per day, per person). Unlike common salt (98-100% Sodium Chloride or 40% Sodium and 60% Chloride), PANSALT® only contains 56-57% Sodium Chloride.

Furthermore, PANSALT® has more nutritive value, having Magnesium, Potassium, Lysine and Iodine among its components. These are minerals with important health benefits to the body.

PANSALT® FAQ Series: Who invented PANSALT®? How did PANSALT® come about?

Heikki  Karppanen, MD
PANSALT® is a quality innovation in health foods spearheaded by Heikki Karppanen, M.D., a Professor at the University of Helsinki, Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology in Finland.

Dr. Karppanen became involved in the study of salt and its harmful effects after he learned about the high incidence of heart attacks leading to deaths among families in North Karelia, Finland where they lived. He later discovered that it was the high Sodium and low mineral content in the soil in their area affecting their food chain that brought about these heart problems and deaths.

This inspired Dr. Karppanen towards the invention of PANSALT®. Together with Dr. Mildred Seelig, a Magnesium expert from the American College of Nutrition, studies towards the development of PANSALT® were completed. The collaboration of the two experts may be found in the Journal of the College.

The Wages of Partying

There are usually one too many of those eat-drink-and-be-merry binges when special occasions come around, but it is well known that gorging on rich but low-nutrition food, indulging in alcohol, and staying up late can take a toll on one’s well-being and lead to health problems. The following are some tips to keep partygoers safe from the hazards of too much action:

Eat before you go out. Not only will you not get as drunk, but this will keep you from eating 12 mini-burgers or little fried finger-food wonders. Make a point of eating something healthy to give yourself a head start. You're already going to a party so be diligent before you go let it lose.
Don't stand near the bar or buffet table. Avoid getting yourself in a situation where you're mindlessly eating or drinking. If you're that bored, go hang out with someone you enjoy or simply leave because your boredom is a sign that the party isn’t that great.
Drink water in between each drink. You will get less drunk, and since you're staying hydrated, you may avoid the headache in the morning.
Go cut a rug. Let it fly. Even if you don't love dancing, go get your groove on. It keeps you away from the food, and it's hard to drink when you're busting a move. Plus you can blow off some steam. The dancer who has the most fun wins -- not who looks the best.
Don't stay too late. Nothing good happens late. Get in, have some fun, and know when it's time to go home. For sure, you won't be missing anything.
Drink water before bed. Even though you've been drinking water all night, make sure you get some more in before you hit the hay. Some even take vitamins before sleeping. You never know from where you get a little extra help.

Eat food with healthy salt. You can eat party food without worrying too much about your health with PANSALT®, the good-tasting, low-sodium salt imported from Finland that’s made especially for health-conscious individuals and for those with special dietary regimens. Imported by Accord International, Inc., PANSALT® is a unique, patented mineral salt with iodine that gives food the same savory flavor as common salt, without its harmful effects.

The problem with common salt is that it’s a hundred percent sodium chloride (technically 98-100 percent), which causes high blood pressure that can lead to a host of other complications, ranging from strokes and heart attacks to kidney damage. PANSALT® cuts sodium chloride to 56-57 percent and is high in essential minerals such as magnesium and potassium, which cannot be found in common salt.PANSALT® also tastes good, with the best taste profile among low-sodium salts. Unlike other salts that are also low in sodium chloride, it has no bitter or metallic aftertaste. Tests have also shown that PANSALT® improves the therapeutic effects of medication for high blood pressure.

PANSALT® has found great consumer acceptance across Europe , including the UK , and in Asia and the Pacific, including Singapore , Malaysia , and Australia , making it a favored flavoring agent in thousands of food products from hundreds of manufacturers. PANSALT® is already being used in processed meat and fish products, snacks, dairy and bakery products, seasonings and flour mixtures.

Stay Sexy with PANSALT®

There is no short cut when it comes to health and fitness. While consumers have a vast choice when it comes to weight-loss pills, trendy diets, fat reduction procedures and exercise programs, the tried and tested formula for staying fit still requires a major change in lifestyle. This means having a good diet and proper exercise.

While most fitness-conscious individuals would happily take on a sport or an exercise program, only a few are open to limiting their food intake to “healthy dishes.”

Fitness diets are synonymous to bland and tasteless meals. While packed in nutritional value, the pleasure of eating automatically disappears because of its non-appealing taste.

Most healthy dishes are low in sodium mainly because common salt is known to cause high blood pressure that could lead to complications like strokes, heart attack and kidney damage.

It’s a good thing home-makers have discovered the wonders of PANSALT®, the good-tasting low-sodium mineral salt from Finland fortified with Iodine. Rich in essential minerals like magnesium and potassium, PANSALT® contains only 56-57% sodium. It gives the same savory flavor of common table salt without its harmful effects.  Ideal for home and industrial use, PANSALT® can be used for all types of food preparations like baked goods, meat, fish, fast food, snacks, dairy products and many more.
